I am skeptical about ANYTHING that is going to come from Bush.
Up to now, the fact that he is interested only in his political sponsors
at any cost should be obvious for anyone. I was a pro-republican before Bush
first term :-(
So, if Bush propose something read the fine prints. I believe it is going to
be something that hurt the middle class in order to provide more money to
top 5 percent.
There are a couple of issues with health insurance system:
- preconditions. There must be a provision in law to prevent any look at a
person precondition to deny or increase his coverage.
- affordability for unemployed. When a person is unemployed, he must have
the coverage as before for a rate he can afford from the money he get from
unemployment insurance or welfare.
- affordability for everybody. Even people working for WalMart or McDonalds
must be able to afford health care as needed.
- do not create artificially handicaps for employers. A manufacturing
company having workers here have to pay a lot for health insurance, if they
move production in China they avoid these costs. An intelligent system for
health coverage and pension system MUST take this issue in consideration and
charge companies the same for health care and retirement regardless if they
employ workers here or in China. This way, you eliminate an unfair
advantage a company have when offshore jobs.
