Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I'd like to see the same for
the Federal Government. We're (as a government) somewhere
near $8,000,000,000 in debt right now. On the other side of the
equation, we *own* things -- national parks, highway systems,
military bases, F16s, real estate, and whatnot.
Would there be anywhere to find this info on a .gov site? What
is the current Federal Govt. asset:debt ratio? I'd guess that we're
sitting on quite a pile of assets, but does it make up for an 8 trillion
dollar debt?
I was able to find an estimate of $330 billion (1996 dollars) for the
Interstate Highway system, so there is the possiblity, that assets
might add up to a reasonable amount, but good accounting principles
aren't usually applied to government.
