Same point can be made about counting patents.

But I wasn't trying to use the number of patents as evidence to prove
anything.

Because you have no evidence whatever. Your claim was a post hoc
fallacy, which I identified as such immediately after you made it.

If patents and scientific papers aren't measures of progress, suggest
some measures that suit you better.

Or admit you are wrong.
