I have no insurance, but the organization above appears to be a
front for the healthcare industry, disguised as a "grass-roots"
campaign to improve medical care for the working poor. The
health care industry supports it because they not only will get
more patients, but also because insurance has grossly distorted
the healthcare market because doctors no longer have to worry
that their price may be too high for the market to bear (because
insurance will pay, the patient no longer has to make choices
based on what he can afford). As a result, a minor surgical
procedure I need costs $3000 in the U.S. because insurance
usually covers it and $500 in Mexico where there is no health
insurance and prices for medical procedures are based on what
patients can afford and not what the insurance of the few lucky
patients who have it will pay.
