So you admit that some forms of controll (parental controll, prisons) are
ok. Good. Let talk about prisons.
Why would a libertarian put somebody in prison ?
Because they did something against another person, like looting his money.
But the looter can say:
- "I didn't done anything bad based on libertarian doctrina".
How come ?
- "Well, they say I am free to do whatever I want how long this does not
prevent somebody else's rights".
- "I am stealing from other's people but I didn't never disallow them to
come and loot from me too".
- "They have exactly the same rights as I do, be quick or be dead".
Does libertarians agree with this kind of philosophy? If yes, you guys must
oppose any prisons and fight for freedom for all the criminals. If no, who
have the authority to decide what is a crime and what is not a crime, and
on what basis ?
Why grabbing somebody from the street and force him to work for me and pay
him as I please is criminal, while controlling limited resources as a large
corporations and force the workers to accept low wages since they have no
other options is not criminal ?
Why an ordinary looter should be considered a criminal, while a CEO should
be considered a decent businessman ?
Do you understand the similitude ?
There is no clear line from a criminal behavior and a social accepted rough
business behavior. It is ONLY a mater of historicly established boundaries
that are accepted by the society at a given moment.
However, society evolve. Exactly as in middle ages it was an acceptable
behavior to burn witches alive while today we acknowledge that this was
something stupid and criminal, we have to rethink the approach we take
about business environment. What was acceptable business behavior in
nineteen century it is obsolete, stupid and maybe even criminal today.
We need a change in the sense of making business more social responsible and
get rid of some today accepted business behaviors which harm people, harm
our society and allow looters to prosper at the peril of people working to
create the wealth.
