"One election subplot was a campaign led by New York City real estate investor
Howard Rich to promote ballot measures in numerous states seeking to rein in
state and local government.
"Of nine Rich-supported measures, only one succeeded - a property-rights
measure in Arizona that would require state and local authorities to
compensate property owners if land-use regulations lower the value of their
property. Similar measures lost in California, Idaho and Washington..."

Any time the land owners want to pay additional taxes when the
mean old nasty government increases the value of their property
I will be more than willing to decrease their taxes when the mean
old nasty government does stuff to devalue their property. I'll
make em the same deal on pure market value: If the actions of
the community (including the government) raise the value of your
land then you owe the community that amount and when the
actions of the community (including the government) lower the
value of your land then the community will pay you the money.
I'll bet I would get no takers.

My home in Port Orchard, Wa. that I paid 129K for 6 years ago
is now worth either 190K (tax assessor), or 218k (the bank), or
235k (the real estate boys). The tax people assured me that the
tax rate would be reduced because they do not want to hurt the
old ladies and the old dudes like me. What a crock. They don't
want to hurt the people that own commercial property. They'd
much rather raise sales taxes and such. Its a sick system, but
I'm not going to shoot myself in the foot by abandoning my
home for a principle that none of the other people seem to
support.
