Read Thomas Paine -Common Sense-. The opening two pages is a commentary on the confusion of government with society. Humanity has always had society, which is an outrgrowth of family, a biologically and psychologically natural unit. Government came much later when agriculture became the major mode of food production and land became property. During the hunting-gathering days land is what one passed over to get to the game, the roots, the nuts. Land was no more property than air. It was just there.
Governments were established
1. To put land under the exclusive control of individuals or some privileged group, such as the priests in Egypt.
2. To put landless folkd to work to sow and reap groups, then take the product of the labor of these landless folk.
In short, government was and still is a stealing machine. Taxation is theft.
