The 12/4/06 O'Reilly Factor show featured Bill and Neil Cavuto
discussing whether Walmart fails to treat its employees decently.
Cavuto cited the fact that average worker pay is around 2x the federal
minimum wage so they pay decent. He did not take into account relative
cost of living, the workload demands of retail in general on individual
employees and much more. Because the poverty level has not been
updated, the wages at Walmart and all the other major retailers are
most likely what would be the minimum wage if it was revised to modern
standards. Cavuto also stated that turnover was low in comparison to
other retailers but did not specify differences in employee demand
therefore opportunities for alternate employment around the country.
