Reciprocation and empathy.

Reciprocation is a social necessity. I can hardly expect goods and services from others unless I am willing to provide goods and services to others.

Empathy? At most empathy-lite. I hate feeling my own pain, why should I try to feel someone else's pain? Yet it is useful to understand what might cause another pain. This is what I call empathy-lite. One can be hard hearted and hard headed but one need not be deaf to the groans of his fellow. It is well that we understand why we should not step on the toes of our fellows.
