Before development of Laplace transform, the problem of inverted pendulum
was a insolvable problem. Not because the physics was not a science, but
just because the tools were not there.


Before the modern computers, it was impossible to calculate/predict the
trajectory for more than 4 bodies (asteroids roughly the same size not to
make approximations and ignore some interactions) that interact to each
other. Not because the physics was not a science, not because the Newtons
laws were not knows but just because the differential equations resulting
are too complicated to be integrated analytical. But with modern
super-computers, we can simulate and calculate/predict large solar systems
or even small galaxies.
