In the last few day its been in the news that the number of children
living in relative poverty (60% of medianincome) in the UK has risen
in the last year. I was wondering if people think this is actually a
serious problem?

There's quite a bit of evidence that being on the bottom of the pyramid
socially (regardless of one's actual level of absolute wealth) introduces a
lot of stress and leads to shortened lifespan.

Robert Sapolski has written about that in his book _Why Zebras Don't Get
Ulcers_.
