But that may not be the best solution. Why shouldn't the real estate
of nonprofits be taxed?
Land that can't be used to make money yields no rent. Whether that is
a question of land use designation or who happens to own the land is
another matter.
Why shouldn't buildings that are fire hazards be taxed to reflect the
higher fire fighting costs?
Because it is too difficult to estimate each building's fire hazard
cost status accurately.
Why shouldn't high rise buildings be taxed for the volume they take up
because they block sunlight and air circulation?
Land that is designated for high-rise use is already taxed higher,
because of the greater economic advantage obtained by using it.
