Daily Market Commentary for March 11, 2008 from Millennium-Traders.Com
At the closing bell on the Stock Exchange, here is how the major indices
ended the session on the U.S. Markets:
DOW (Dow Jones Industrial Average) whopping triple digit gain of 416.66
points on the day to end the session at 12,156.81
NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) sharp triple digit gain of 308.31 points to
end the session at 8,842.68
NASDAQ gain of 86.42 points for a close at 2,255.76
S&P 500 gain of 47.28 points for a close at 1,320.65
FTSE All-World ex-U.S. gain of 2.92 points to close at 235.79
FTSE RAFI 1000 triple digit gain of 118.10 points to close at 5,405.32
BEL 20 gain of 34.38 points to close at 3,669.92
CAC 40 gain of 25.58 points to close at 4,627.69
FTSE100 gain of 4.1 points to close at 5,690.40
NIKKEI 225 loss of 124.5 points to close at 12,658.30
On the NYSE today, advancers came in at 2,652, decliners totaled 562;
unchanged came in at 57; new highs came in at 2 and new lows came in at 1.
Momentum NYSE stocks traded by active Day Traders today: WellPoint
Incorporated (WLP) shed 18.66 points with a high on the day of $52.15, a
low of $46.66 for a closing price at $47.26; Unitedhealth Group,
Incorporated (UNH) shed 6.83 points with a high on the day of $41.27, a
low of $37.32 for a closing price at $38.24; Coventry Health Care
Incorporated (CVH) shed 6.40 points with a high on the day of $46.28, a
low of $39.24 for a closing price at $43.30; Humana Incorporated (HUM)
shed 15.32 points with a high on the day of $53.49, a low of $42.85 for a
closing price at $47.38; Petroleo Brasileiro (PBR) gained 5.98 points with
a high on the day of $114.70, a low of $109.33 for a closing price at
$114.58; Suntech Power Holdings Corporation Limited (STP) shed 1.83 points
with a high on the day of $31.08, a low of $28.91 for a closing price at
$30.24; Texas Instruments Incorporated (TXN) shed 0.89 points with a high
on the day of $29.78, a low of $27.67 for a closing price at $28.76;
Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Incorporated (FCX) gained 7.50 points with
a high on the day of $101.75, a low of $95.62 for a closing price at
$101.47; Spartech Corporation (SEH) shed 2.64 points with a high on the
day of $13.76, a low of $8.83 for a closing price at $11.06; Health Net
Incorporated (HNT) shed 8.46 points with a high on the day of $39.88, a
low of $32.50 for a closing price at $34.58; Mastercard Incorporated (MA)
gained 4.34 points with a high on the day of $196.99, a low of $183.58 for
a closing price at $195.84; CIGNA Corporation (CI) shed 4.22 points with a
high on the day of $40.64, a low of $36.75 for a closing price at $38.76;
Mindray Medical International Limited (MR) shed 1.84 points with a high on
the day of $30.12, a low of $26.07; for a closing price at $27.37; Aetna
Incorporated (AET) shed 3.86 points with a high on the day of $42.78, a
low of $39.55 for a closing price at $42.65; Goldman Sachs Group
Incorporated (GS) gained 7.49 points with a high on the day of $164.84, a
low of $157.50 for a closing price at $163.07; Washington Mutual
Incorporated (WM) gained 1.84 points with a high on the day of $12.60, a
low of $10.46 for a closing price at $11.88; Spartech Corporation (SEH)
shed 2.64 points with a high on the day of $13.76, a low of $8.83 for a
closing price at $11.06; The Bear Stearns Companies, Incorporated (BSC)
gained 0.67 points with a high on the day of $68.24, a low of $55.42 for a
closing price at $62.97; CME Group, Incorporated (CME) gained 43.25 points
with a high on the day of $504.75, a low of $470.25 for a closing price at
$504.50; Mosaic Corporation (MOS) gained 11.70 points with a high on the
day of $107.06, a low of $97.73 for a closing price at $107.06; Potash
Corp. of Saskatchewan, Incorporated (POT) gained 13.19 points with a high
on the day of $156.22, a low of $146.30 for a closing price at $156.22.
On the NASDAQ today, advanced totaled 2,209; decliners totaled 793;
unchanged came in at 99; new highs came in at 11 and new lows came in at
277. Momentum NASDAQ stocks traded by active Day Traders today: China Fire
& Security Group, Incorporated (CFSG) shed 3.31 points with a high on the
day of $7.29, a low of $3.55 for a closing price at $5.45; DryShips,
Incorporated (DRYS) gained 7.42 points with a high on the day of $67.86, a
low of $62.50 for a closing price at $67.82; First Solar, Incorporated
(FSLR) gained 21.54 points with a high on the day of $199.04, a low of
$180.40 for a closing price at $198.11; Baidu.com, Incorporated (BIDU)
gained 19.09 points with a high on the day of $260.81, a low of $245.80
for a closing price at $260.39; Intuitive Surgical, Incorporated (ISRG)
gained 11.59 points with a high on the day of $269.52, a low of $260.86
for a closing price at $267.17; Google Incorporated (GOOG) gained 26.22
points with a high on the day of $440.15, a low of $424.65 for a closing
price at $439.84.
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson: Housing Continues to pose biggest

U.S. January Trade Deficit came in at $58.20 Billion compared to consensus
of Deficit at $59.75B; January Exports came in at $148.23 Billion, with an
increase by 1.6%; January Imports came in at $206.43 Billion, with an
increase by 1.3%; December Trade Balance Revised to Deficit of $57.86B
from Deficit of $58.76 Billion.
Energy Information Administration: U.S. 1Q Oil Use revised Down, seen 0.8%
below year ago; U.S. Diesel Prices to average $3.70/Gallon in March, April;
U.S. 2Q Oil Use revised Down 0.4% versus estimate; flat on the year;
U.S.2008 Diesel Price revised Up 7.5% from last forecast; U.S.2008 Diesel
seen at $3.45/Gallon, 57 cents over 2007 average; "Significant
Possibility" Gasoline Prices top $4/Gallon; U.S. Gasoline to average
$3.21/Gallon in 2008; revised higher by 4.6%; U.S.2008 Fuel Use, excluding
Ethanol, to fall 90,000 B/D; EIA Revises 2008 U.S. Spot Crude Price rose
8.8%; U.S. 2008 Oil Growth to be just 40,000 B/D on slow Economy:; U.S.
Spot Crude to average $94.11/Barrel in 2008; U.S. Spot Crude seen at
$97/Barrel in 2Q 2008; U.S. 2Q 2008 Spot Crude Price forecast revised
higher by 9%; U.S. 2008 Oil Forecast Revised down 0.6% versus estimate;
U.S. 2Q '08 Gasoline to average $3.45/Gal; Revised +3.6%; U.S. Retail
Gasoline to average $3.37/Gallon in Summer; U.S. 2Q 2008 Diesel to
average$3.60/Gallon, higher by 28% from year before; 2Q, full year 2008
China Oil Use Seen higher by 5.0% versus a year ago; :2Q World Oil Use
Seen Up 1.6% versus a year ago; U.S. 2Q Diesel Price Revised Up 9% from
prior outlook; U.S. 2008 Oil Forecast sees smallest GDP Growth since 2001.
Commodities Markets
The trend was mostly higher across the board today for the Energy Sector:
Light crude moved higher today by $0.85 to close at $108.75 a barrel;
Heating Oil moved higher today by $0.02 to close at $3.00 a gallon;
Natural Gas moved lower today by $0.02 to close at $10.00 per million BTU
and Unleaded Gas moved higher today by $0.01 to close at $2.73 a gallon.
Metals Markets ended the session mixed across the board today: Gold moved
higher today by $4.20 to close at $976.00 a Troy ounce; Silver moved lower
today by $0.02 to close at $19.76 per Troy ounce; Platinum moved nicely
higher today by $13.30 to close at $2,052.40 per Troy ounce and Copper
closed lower by $0.01 to close at $3.79 per pound.
On the Livestock and Meat Markets, the trend was mostly higher across the
board today: Lean Hogs ended the day higher by $0.58 to close at $58.30;
Pork Bellies ended the day higher by $0.85 to close at $81.90; Live Cattle
ended the day higher by $0.15 to close at $89.90 and Feeder Cattle ended
the day lower by $0.78 to close at $102.35.
Other Commodities: Corn ended the day higher by $6.75 at $571.50 and
Soybeans ended the day higher by $1.25 to end the session at $1,407.75.
Bonds were lower across the board today: 2 year bond closed lower by 18/32
at 100 14/32; 5 year bond moved lower by 1 9/32 to close at 100 15/32
today; 10 year bond moved lower by 1 7/32 to close at 99 5/32 and the 30
year bond moved lower by 26/32 to close at 97 24/32 on the day.
The e-mini Dow ended the session today at 12,191 with a hefty gain of 412
points on the trading session. The total Dow Exchange Volume for the day
came in at 216,491 which are comprised of Electronic, Open Auction and
Cash Exchange. Traders should review workshops available at the CBOT
(Chicago Board of Trade) Educational in-person seminars schedules
available on CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) website.
The end of day results for the CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) which is
comprised of the total Exchange Volume for Futures and Options (EVFO)
including Electronic, Open Auction and Cash Exchange ended the day at
4,484,902; Open Interest for Futures moved lower by 27,641 points to close
at 10,007,641; the Open Interest for Options moved higher by 82,898 points
to close at 7,975,831 and the Cleared Only moved higher by 233 points to
close at 27,638 for a total Open Interest on the day of 18,011,110 for a
total Change on the day with a gain of 55,490 points.
