I've now opened the S&S sound box, & find the SMD chip buried under
the usual black blob. Grr. It may not be a zero power ISD Flash type
since a tiny sleeping current (~1.5 microAmp) noted & stored messages
are lost after some minutes when the batteries are removed. See pix =>

Adaption for (at least simple) Picaxe micro use & larger
batteries/switches looks easy however - especially at the all up
bargain price! This could make a nifty school project (hint hint), or
maybe a UHF CB range extending simplex repeater to suit emergency,
search & rescue use etc. Stan
