Some news servers don't carry any binary newsgroups, and some don't
carry selected text newsgroups. They each have their reasons from not
enough disk storage to not wanting to carry copyrighted materials and
risk a lawsuit some day.
There are still a lot of free or low cost news servers out there. A
little work with Google and the right keywords will help you find plenty
of them. I have a bunch of them bookmarked on a different computer that
isn't working right now.
As far as Jasen goes, I have noticed a lot of bad or incomplete advice
over the past eight months. I have had to work under a lot of critical
requirements. Are you familiar with ISO 9001? The paperwork will cause
a heart attack if you're not careful. :(
As far as learning something today? good for you! Everyone needs
that, every day.
