Speed

How does speed of data(in MB/s say) related to speed in Hz? Is there a
simple relation? It would seem that, say, if I'm transfering something at
100MB/s then it would be equivilent ot 100 HZ? (since a "cycle" is like a
bit (although I guess that could be off by a factor of 2 depending on what
you call a cyle)?)

The reason is that after reading some of AOE it I get the impression that
its very difficult to get speeds about 100Mhz and it takes special design to
even do that... It does mention that there are transistors/techniques that
can theoretically get up to 18Ghz but that they are very expensive. So how
do we have 10Gb/s connections and now even up to 1Tb/s connections using
fiber optics? Is AOE out of data about this sorta stuff or am I missing
something? Or is this just "mumbo-jumbo" when they talk about these numbers
since you can have many "channels" that add up to that speed but in reality
the speed is really only a fraction of what they say?

Thanks,
Jon
