Now I just have to figure out how to attach a parallel port cable to my
breadboard... hmm...

Get a piece of ribbon cable, with an IDC DB-25M, and do this:

I was afraid of that... but I'm sure I have one of those ribbons in my
box'o'computer-junk in the garage...

But be careful to avoid this while tinning those #28 stranded wires:
