PICkit 2 problem

In trying to install my pickit 2 on a new
system, the 'busy' light began blinking.
Now I can't get the pickit program to
recognize the module no matter how many
times I reinstall the USB conection.
Has anyone encountered this before, or
did this blasted machine cook my programmer?
