After ironing-on the 1st side,
I drilled out 1 hole each near opposite corners of the board
and stuck a straight pin thru each hole.
I never had the slighted problem getting the 2nd layer registered.

....and registration-wise,
I still don't see how putting on and taking off paint changes
anything.
