When I had to get a large connector on a 0.5" diameter cable through a
panel, I had the electricians punch a 3" hole that would pass the
connector - then I got a 4" square piece of aluminum, drilled a 5/8"
hole in the middle and cut it in half, through the hole. I mounted
the two pieces over the 3" hole, and put a suitable grommet around the
cable and trapped it in the 5/8" hole between the two half-plates.
Made a fairly neat installation.
There is also some nylon (or other plastic) U-channel material made
especially for making large do-it-yourself grommets.
