Thanks for your suggestion.

So basically I would have the bnc female connectors on each board
facing each other, with about 1cm between each. This will connect the
signal lines, but what about the ground lines? I could solder them
perhaps with a short lenth of copper wire, but I don't want to
interfere with the codec board.

How would your u-bend suggestion compare with the use of such a
connector -

with regard to signal to noise ratio? I guess it would depend on the
material - gold, tin etc. So, would I get the same performance with a
tinned u-bend and a tinned connector as in the diagram? I'd like to go
with your suggestion because this would give me only 1cm or so of
seperation between the two boards. This will allow me to design a
larger board.

The bnc connectors on my board appear to be tin plated and the
converters have a SNR of around 90dBs -
