Fundamental research differs from applied research only in the time it
takes to make a profit. It pays off correspondingly better, but no
right-wing nitwit has the attention span to work this out.

None that your tiny mind can appreciate.

It isn't so much that you are expected to pay for it, as that your
democratically elected government taxes you to pay for this and a
whole lot of other collective services that you lack to wit to value.
You also seem to lack the historical background to understand that
back when these services were supplied by "private enterrprise" the
private entereprenuers were just as greedy and crooked as Enron - read
Dickens' "David Copperfield" for some insight into thoroughly
privatised education at Dotheboys School.

Perhaps rather more gratitude for a link to a right wing nitwit
preaching the usual right-wing codswallop for incorrigibly ignorant.
