I'm replying to this thru goofle just to see if it starts a new thread
- an irritation. I was lucky to find this thread at the bottom of the
"active older threads" list - anything else looks like a PITA.
It just clicked in my mind that I don't have to register to reply
because either DNA, Chaos, or Watson posted maybe 2 mos ago about
gmail, so I got an account.
Signing in took me to a page that said, "Welcome back, Mike!" and
something like, "Before we'll let you play, we need to know more info
about you." OK. Minor alarm bells go off.
But all it asked for was my nickname and that's optional. They wasted
my time, right? And they don't mention how the nickname will be used,
but I'm thinking it will show up as my monicker/screen name. We'll see.
Someone mentioned email obfuscation and the fact that spammers don't
use google. But this will end up on usenet so I don't want this google
addy out there unless it's munged.
For all I know, my gmail account has a pile of spam waiting for me
though I've never used it or given out the addy. Maybe I'll check.
Maybe not.
