Usenet is world-wide. You should mention location so as to
not waste the time of those on other coninents. (It's in
Placerville, CA USA, folks - roughly between Sacramento
and Reno. Nice area.)
BTW, I have seen these folk's external microphone preamplifier
in use in various recording studios. It has no input transformer
and keeps the signal balanced from end-to end. Not cheap, though;
$500 to $1000 per channel depending on how many channels you buy.
The kind of consoles these things are hooked to have quite good
mic amps already, but I could hear the difference on solo piano,
solo violin, and some vocals. They also have some interesting
boxes that let you switch between vacuum tubes an JFETs with
everything else being the same.
