Not in Arizona, but, as a kid in West Virginia, the Sears catalog was
prominent in the outhouse on my grandparent's farm in Pendleton
County.

But, in the late 1940's, there was rural electrification (IIRC, "REA",
actually started by FDR, but very slow moving to encompass the whole
country) which allowed the use of electric-powered water pumps.

So my father and all his brothers went together and plumbed the farm
house for running water, flush toilets, septic tank, etc.
