Actually it was foisted on us by the oil companies, who could make MTBE in
their refineries and didn'thave to meet the fuel-oxygenation requirement by
buying alcohol from the Midwest farming weenies.

Or in big-money terms, Exxon beat ADM, and we all got screwed.
