Hello Michael,
About 15 years ago a link from the Crystal River nuclear power plant to the east coast of Florida was being built. A group of environmentalists and an unnamed "Ph.D." were making the claim that by quadrupling the voltage on the new lines that they were also quadrupling the magnetic field. The new lines were twice as high as the lines they replaced, but no one could convince the environmentalists that the field would be reduced to one eighth of what the old system produced. They were screaming that it would cause all kinds of cancer and kill all the farm animals in the rural areas where most of the system was built.
So why did nobody throw that serious math error in their faces? Preferably in the public media. I am all for the environment and try to do my fair share in being a good steward but when enviros start arguments using haphazard mathematics my sympathies end right there.
Regards, Joerg
