I've never made any such mistake. My son never did any work I wouldn't
do (examples of the opposite are abundant ;-).

Of course. I've helped my son out by calling on friends for favors
that I wouldn't ask for myself. When he decided that he didn't want to go
to college, I was dissapointed but that wasn't my decision to make. He
immediately started paying "rent" (about $100/wk). Too bad; life's rough!
The point wasn't the $100, but that he was responsible for his decisions
(see elow).

He still hasn't figured out that we banked most of the "rent" he was
paying. When he bought a car, he thought I paid the $1500 down payment
(in $100s) out of my hip. I'm not *that* nice of a guy! ;-) ...though I
also guaranteed the loan.
