OT: Evacuations are not feasable

I live in Houston and can now report from direct experience that
evacuation of a major metropolitan area is not an option. For better
than two days, all the roads leaving Houston are gridlocked for hundred
mile stretches. As of yesterday, it's a 33 hour trip to Dallas (225
miles), as if I could actually buy some gasoline along the way. This is
a total train wreck. Have a look at what's happening:

Fortunately I live in far NW Harris county so things are really looking
up for me. As the projected landing point of the storm shifts to the
east, it puts me in a better and better situation. Being on the dry
side means I can stop worrying about flooding, and now the latest
projections show that I'm not even in the hurricane force wind fields of
the coming storm. At first I was looking at being on the wet side and
receiving 130mph winds at my home. Now it's looking more like 60mph
winds and allot less rain potential.
It seems that it is simply not possible to evacuate the
Houston/Galveston metro area even if you try hard and start early.
