uC and USB implimentation

Hi all.
I currently have a developement board for the PIC16f877 that I designed
that has a serial port to talk to the PC. This has been working great ,
but now I want to "Upgrade".
Is it a big task to replace the serial interface with a USB interface
to the PC. Serial ports on PC's seem to be getting fewer all the time.I
assume that some usb <> serial convertor (NCN2500) will be the way to
go.
Is this a simple thing to implement , or is it more complicated than
first appears>
Cheers
Rob
