I too was a reader from the 1960s and had collected many issues from
long before that.
It was sad to see an editor so far out of touch with her inherited
readership that she could write such a stupid editorial. She
effectively kicked loyal readers and potential contributors in the teeth
by saying that the things they valued most in that publication were
worthless. I first thought it was a tongue-in-cheek message to goad
people to rally and support the magazine ...until I saw the next issue.
Your reply to her was a lot more imaginative than my letter to the
subscriptions department, but I also took the trouble to let them know
the reasons why I was cancelling my subscription.
The article I was about to submit on a novel capsule-array microphone
design has never been completed because I can't think where else to
publish it.
