Been there, done that! ;-D ;-D ;-D
Nobody else showed up, except me and John and John's lackey, who
looks much like a young clone of Guy Macon. It was a great show,
everyone was very personable and stuff, and John showed off some
really neat-looking stuff. That thing with the blue anodized cover
was there, and he still had the cover on it! But there were other
boards, very impressively assembled.
Anyway, to get to the meat of this report, the time I spend at
the show was relatively unimpressive, other than having a conversation,
live, in real-time, face-to-face, with John Larkin. We shook
hands. He gave me some refrigerator magnets.
But during the course of the conversation, he revealed that he
doesn't take USENET seriously. THE ***! USENET IS MY LIFE!!!
- no, just kidding on that last part, but the thing is, John seems
to consider USENET essentially a toy. Which, when you really look
into it, is about as close of a description...
But I digress. My impressions were that John is a very personable,
very knowledgable guy, who doesn't take USENET too seriously. Doesn't
take _himself_ all that seriously, now that I mention it.
He doesn't look anything like John Fields's picture. :-)
But I also wanted to talk about my road trip - maybe I should do
another response for that. Yeah, that's it!
Thanks!
Rich
