Yeah, a sparse matrix of Taco Bells, laundromats, ugly apartments,
Chinese restaurants, gas stations, U-Store facilities, and Wal-Marts
as far as you can see in all directions, which, given the smog, isn't
all that far. The spiritual vacuum here is enough to make one
reconsider religion. They have an actual lighthouse near the shore,
and they've surrounded it with colored floodlights so one minute it's
bright green, the next it's purple. There's a fake roller coaster, and
they have loudspeakers that play music 24 hours a day on the pier.

It's good to be home.
