that should work ok, though not with a sine input of course, unless
your circuit has a bridge rectified input.

for what? The reservoir will turn 1kHz into dc, and if you removed
that to modulate the bulb at 1kHz I dont think you'd see anything but a
lit bulb.

It wont, use a darlington if you dont want to buy the fets.
