Just because Bush didn't get As in school doesn't mean he is not smart. In
school, he was the popular guy, rather than the wonk. People who can pull
others together are pretty important in this society. With Clinton, we
had both policy smarts and political smarts. That is clearly an edge,
particularly when interacting with wonks who try to impress you with their
knowledge to bend you to their will. Clinton knew enough to probe people
like this, and determine whether they were lying to him. Bush apparently
can't do this, and so ends up being manipulated into corners by his
advisors, who ARE smart policy guys with their own agendas. They get what
they want, he plays the cheerleader, and ends up with a 35% approval
rating. I suspect poppy hired Cheney to protect him from this sort of
thing, but Cheney turned out to be one of the guys with big agendas, so
that didn't work out.

One cannot inquire into the foundations and nature of mathematics without
delving into the question of the operations by which the mathematical
activity of the mind is conducted. If one failed to take that into account,
then one would be left studying only the language in which mathematics is
represented rather than the essence of mathematics.
