The problem is, when we "give" democracy to an artificial country made
up of three mutually incompatible entities, and tell them to "vote for
who gets to run the country", that's like saying, "Let's vote on what
everybody's favorite color is." The Sunnis vote Sunni, the Shia vote
Shiite, the Kurds vote Kurdish, and so on.
I say, get the hell out, and let them draw their own borders for their
own little theocracies, and let them worship Allah in peace. If they
want to have border skirmishes, fine, just don't sell them any more
guns. (or tanks, F-18's, etc.)
Isn't that all they really want, to be free of armed people trying to
coerce them into changing their way of life because the "American way
is better", or something?
