Re: Calculate acoustic resonance

Can anyone provide a simple formula whereby I can calculate
the acoustic resonance of a physical object if its length
is given in mm?
Yes, lookup the velocity of sound in the object's material.
You can calculate the resonant frequency from the velocity
divided by the object's size. If sound can find different
path lengths through your object, to reflecting surfaces,
it can form multiple resonant modes. Sound reflections
occur wherever there's an acoustic impedance change.

With voice and free reed the frequency is set by either the tension in the vocal chords or the vibrations of a reed, and the tonal quality is then modified by the resonant cavities -- in either case the resonances are a modifier of the sound, the generation is separate, and the resonant cavities are not actually needed to make the sound in the first place but do affect the tonal quality if they exist. ...
