Yes, its a question of who gets to have the last barrel of oil in the
world. Most suggestions for how to improve energy security actually are
making it much worse in the long run.

You are assuming that "market forces" are intelligent. I think its more
like evolution. Some percentage of companies make less bad mistakes and
stay in business. Some of their folks quit and start small variations on
the same ideas. Their ideas make it into the next generation of
businesses and the ones with a worse idea don't.

The real reason market based stuff ends up better is because it evolves
faster. You have many experiments running at the same time.


BTW:
We have almost pumped all the oil out of Texas. Now T. Boone Pickens is
proposing to pump out all the water. When he's done, can we give it back
to Mexico.
