If I compare it on my Desktop@work (2,4 GHz Celeron, 512 MB, Staroffice 8)
vs my laptop (500 MHz, 384 MB, OOo 2.02) I can not say, that OOo or
Staroffice is significant slower than Word. The startup is slower, but only
if Word uses the Quickstart. Disabling this causes similar speed.
