Hello Jim,

There is one thing of which the general public seems blithely
unaware...

High schools are rated, so the value of their diplomas is known.

Thus a potential employer can find out more about you than you think.

Look up the school and then require the job applicant to sign a
release of transcript.

Sure, but when I was a hiring manager I was also aware of the fact that
kids usually don't have a choice where they live and thus where they can
go to school. I just didn't place much emphasis on academic
achievements, at least not for high schools since there was no exit
exam. To me motivation and experience including hobbies mattered more.
Still do.

That's why your _relative_ placement in _your_ school is what matters.

Plus most colleges have face-to-face interviews...

Most? Not even close. If 10% of colleges/universities in the United States
do face to face interviews I would be amazed.

I was talking of the "real" ones... you know... the private schools
that don't have to admit the chaff ;-)

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.
