I drive a Saab btw. Made by those nice wealthy Socialists in Sweden.

Saabs are great cars, between fires.

That would appear to be a problem they had long long ago. I've only ever heard
of it from Americans btw.

Google "saab recall" for a *lot* of hits; this one was near the top...

http://www.askaprice.com/torque-article.asp?article=Saab_recall_33,000_cars_in_UK&item=443

The article is not without humor...

"The problem isn't dangerous, Saab promises, and any vehicles who do
develop a fault will be attended to immediately."

What will they do, send a truck to haul away the ashes?

It's simply a duff batch of thyristors or something. They just stop working. There's no fire
at all. It's a sealed unit. Where did you get the fire idea from ?

Umm, the second paragraph?

"According to the Swedish newspaper Gothenburg Post, the problem is
with the ignition system. Variants of the ignition cassette have been
used since the mid-1980s, but it turns out that the ones produced from
2000 to 2002 were too susceptible to failure after over-heating. In
some cases, the failure could cause fires."
