Actually, Digiphase included a DDS-like section but was far more
complex. It was basically a digitally-disciplined analog VCO, and
rather a spectacular failure.

There's a chapter on Digiphase in Jim Williams' second book.

Yes, I've read that slow train-crash of a story.

Apparently noone at Fluke had heard about that, as Fluke went and made
their 60xx line of synthesizers, with extremely complex and shaky
gold-VCO in a gold-plated box with another VCO as a phase-cleanup loop.
About a ping-pong table full of PC boards and delay lines,, folded and
stuffed into half-inch thick aluminum anti-RFI castings. Dozens of
tricky adjustments, some of them not doable in the field, some of them
burned into eproms at the factory. A two-foot stack of service
manuals, and even those were way too skimpy on information. Somebody
should have said "enough!" about half-way through the design process.
Just MHO after trying to fix a pallet of those beasts.
