Well, you don't need them with too many brains, are you
sure you still don't want to use a PIC ?

Speaking of not too many brains... what in the hell do they use in gas
pumps? Pathetically slow.


I haven't seen inside the pumps, but I had a couple old retail
terminals that used 8031 CPUs with a 1 MHz crystal. If the pump is
really slow, its an indication the tank is nearly empty, and you may be
pumping the dregs into your tank.

I'm talking of at the end: after replacing nozzle, wait 20 seconds,
"Would you like a free car wash?", press NO, wait 20 seconds, "Would
you like a receipt?", press YES, wait 20 seconds, "Printing receipt",
etc.


A friend of mine is shutting his station down to replace the tanks
and pumps. It will be closed for two weeks, and cost him over $200,000.
Talk about a bad month for business. :( I ran into him the other day,
while on Jury duty. He was forced to close his business for the
duration, because the judge wouldn't excuse him. He runs the station by
himself, so he lost at least one day of business, and pissed off a lot
of his customers.

I don't get called. I told them the next time they insist that I
show, I will file a class action suit seeking remuneration for EXACT
loss of income ;-)
