You're always free to add a note to the diagram, or better to the

Even better would be to create a new part on the CAD system. That's what
I always do. Except that after switching to Cadsoft they were all there
already.

We always draw our own parts. The stuff in the standard PADS library
is just too ugly. We also have our own symbols for things like mosfets
and schottky diodes that are, to me, more intuitive and readable than
the accepted stuff.

The debate over US/european/tibetan schematic symbols is silly. We
just make up anything that we like. Why follow rules when you can make
rules?

I tend to make my own symbols too.

What version of PADS is that btw ? Any particular comments about it ?

Looks like we're running 5.0. Mentor bought PADS and started changing
things. They even offered a class to train existing users how to use
the new version. So we dropped support and will use 5.0 forever or
until the end of time, whichever comes first.

PADS v5 is as close to perfect Windows software as I've ever used, far
better than anything Microsoft can write. It does everything fast and
right, is easy to drive, and never crashes. Everything (really,
*everything*) can be in/out'ed in ASCII, which can be very handy. It
also has the best schematic entry program I've ever used.

How recent is v5 ? It might be the one I came across a couple of years back.
Mentor was calling it powerlogic / powerpcb then and had dropped the PADS name
but now they've brought it back again !

I was just using a demo copy to review some schematics and layouts that had been
done by our sub-contractor. I didn't have any need to do much with the
schematics but I liked the way the pcb part worked. It seemed quite intuitive.


One of my guys just went to a $500 Xilinx 1-day course, down at the
Xilinx campus in San Jose. The software on the instructor's computer
crashed three times during the day.

I've heard Orcad 10 is a step backwards from 9.2 as well.
