I even tried a low oxygen solution of using regular solder andmyth

The oil is to stop the aluminium re-oxidisng after it's been
cleaned.
The real problem is that aluminium re-oxides so fast it's
difficult to get a
decent surface to solder to. If you used an aggressively acid
flux it might
work.
Not for electronics.
I've done it. You have to cover the surfaces with oil, scratch through the
oxides leaving the oil coating and then solder the parts -- I used regular
solder. It works - crappily.
