What if he needs it to run legacy software or hardware? Then Linux
won't do a damn thing for him. I get tired of the "Linux is the answer
to everything" attitude, when you don't know why he wants the ability to
use an older OS. I keep some legacy systems working to do data
conversion, as well as an assortment of oddball tape and disk drives.
The data is transferred to a newer computer via the parallel ports, then
through a NIC to a modern system. Hell, I can even convert some of the
old Commodore data files to a format readable on newer computers.
