As to Christian (symbolism) well, sure commercialism has grabbed and replaced
the idea with 'sell as much as you can from whatever people want to buy'.
Fine with me, if you like something and can buy it, why not.
How about a big floating elephant from the chimney, nothing to do with anything,
but fun to watch :-)
As to the Christian spirit, it really should be in your heart, and all year long.
To kill 600 000 Iraqis who did nothing to nobody and then come back and
say 'peace on earth' OK, peace is an internal experience, and you can kill while
feeling peace.
But I do not think Jesus advocated killing so many or even a single person.
So, as society is so far away from any real truth or understanding of the self,
all one can do is look within to find ones peace.
Society and its [different cultural] ways will not lead you there.
It has always been that way.
The kingdom of heaven is within.
You bitch about commercialism, then try to make Christmas a political
issue?
