Not a chance; they and the american people are too gutless. What will happen
is the federal govt. will eventually go bankrupt -- when it can't borrow enough
to pay for even the interest on the cumulative deficit. At one time I estimated
that would happen around 2020-2030. Nowadays I think somewhere around 2015 and
perhaps by 2012 if we get another republican administration.

It will never happen. The US government will print all the dollars it
ever needs.

If you print that kind of money, you end up with hyperinflation. Didn't
work for the germans and it won't work for the U.S. More likely would be
an act of congress saying "*** you; we just won't pay it. Sorry: you
shouldn't have trusted us. You screwed up!" IIRC The french did that 3
times during the eighteenth century.

Maybe we'll be back to $3 to the £1 though.
