I won't give you the whole saga since it's all too sad but a major problem is
that ( like many I'm sure ) he's hopless with PCs !
Since I had to do a lot of 'clearing out' first I was working quite fast but
when I had a moment to spend I asked if he was following what I was doing (
create new folder in explorer in this instance ). Of course he didn't !
He's one of those who seem to be under the impression that 'it should be simple'
and seems to have minimal desire to learn how to use it properly.
I spoke a few harsh words on the subject but I recognise that the usual manuals
are far too intimidating for such ppl, and they never ever bother reading them.
Aside from the 'for Dummies' books which I fear may be above his level too - any
ideas how he could at least get a basic grasp of stuff ?

Absolutely! My wife considers herself to be a "computer retard"
(actually, I think she's a from another universe where everything is
not what you would expect). She's never been able to learn Windows.
Then I got a Mac and she taught herself! Now I'm a computer retard too.
Feels great!
