People seem to have trouble grasping second-order concepts, like, teaching
religion is not OK, but there should be no problem with teaching ABOUT
religion. ;-)
True, but the history of this in US schools has not been encouraging. Those
not of the majority beliefs were routinely harassed or assaulted.
Minersville School District v. Gobitis, 310 U.S. 586 (1940), was a U.S.
Supreme Court case involving a Jehovah's Witness named Gobitis, in which the
court had held that Witnesses could be forced against their will to salute
the flag. This decision had led to increased persecution of Witnesses.
Many Witnesses not in school were assaulted, some so viciously as to cause
permanent injury.
The majority often dislike an objective presentation of their beliefs and
history.
